Trying to connect the dots here – you’re trying to say something about Janis?
Supercilious doesn’t fit any view of Jerry I have ever taken.

Bingo on Janis . In every sense of the word .

Though , after Garcia professes his love for her , ( eye to eye ) , then hides behind his guitar , she tells him not to cop out . I love that line .

I think that Rob is perhaps as supercilious as they come round here (I intend that as a compliment...if you're right, you're right, right?), though someone called me that here some yrs ago (and they were probably right).

Disdain is the butter and haughtiness the bread of intellectuals don't you think? Again, not necessarily in a bad way except when it gets in the way of converting the masses to your take on whatever it is you're blathering on about...

"Tell, you supercilious nincompoop"

See? It just fits...

You really think I'm 'haughty and disdainful' do you? Well I may not suffer fools gladly and I may be an objectionable asshole with an acid tongue and a scornful manner but that is not the same thing as being supercilious. I ask you to withdraw your unfounded assertion, Master Tell.

Well, it seems that we have a situation brewing here. I'm sure that the two of you will agree to settle this dispute in the gentlemanly way. Of course a duel is the only gentlemanly way appropriate to the circumstances. May I recommend cream pies at 20 paces?

Hey Bill - the only thing Tell and I would brew is coffee. Might go well with the cream pies though...

Truth is, I've never read/heard (rarely) "supercilious" except pejoratively, but checking the defn, I thought to myself "I bet this is just how Rob and I come off--er, appear--sometimes" (note how I linked us there to my advantage...sneaky).

So, I must admit, til today, I never thought of you as haughty, but perhaps, disdainful when warranted, if that makes any sense.

Tell, you are our dearly beloved elder statesman and I but the bad-mouthed capering cynic dancing around your podium. No doubt we're right a lot of the time but what saves us from the trap of superciliousness is that when we're wrong we admit to it. Witness how RBNW caught me on the hop a few minutes ago. Rest easy on your chiffarobe, old friend.

Oh no, you are quite mistaken. You come off as supercilious most of the time. :)

You make me laugh , rob . In a good way . Though , it may take two days and a few correspondences . Usually , I'm quicker .
It's the frighteningly penetrating , and often correct insight , combined with the wordsmithing . Quite a one , two .

I do need a grammmar course _ badly ^
Or maybe its is my style * The last excuse of the lazy or stupid +

( [ my email is not behaving well , sorry for any delay ])

Cheers

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...

Glad you're not taking me amiss - I guess you'll know when you should. I'm really not much more than a smartass with attitude. I wouldn't worry for a second about changing your style - you seem to have got your feet firmly under the forum table in a very short time.

As to emails, haven't had a thing from you in a while. You been trying to send recently?

Yeah , I have tried to email . But it is on my part . It's not a big deal > Social , a question , and a laugh .

But rob , lets not be coy . Just as this is more than a GD forum , Methinks you are a tad more then a smartass w/ an attitude . Those folks are a dime a dozen . And usually boring .

don't bother. She is an obnoxious reality TV show star but for some reason quite popular. I can't say i have ever watched the show nor intend to.

I do not see rob quite that way . I don't get the insecurity , which is a key component to the behavior . Now his description , seeing that he is the wordsmith , I would not trifle with .
